THE BREAD OF LIFE

 John 6:47-51, 60-66



John 6:48 says: I am the bread of life. Bread is one of the essential foods of many cultures all around the world. For many countries, bread is usually the staple at the table during meals instead of rice. Our Lord Jesus compared Himself to rice as it is essential, based on the following:

1. The living bread which came down from heaven – with our Lord Jesus Christ in our midst, there is nothing you would ask for. Verse 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” Matthew 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”

2. The Spirit who gives life – the bread is the word of God. Verse 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

Jesus assuredly said that he who believes in Him has an eternal life as He is the bread of life.
Jesus is my daily bread and I am always fully satisfied.
