FALLING INTO TEMPTATION
By Rev. Oliver Castro Mutuc
1 John 2:16 says: For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. Temptations are always rampant for us to fall into trap. More and more temptations are being set by the devil especially on our weak side. And here are the traps: - aGenesis 3: 6
1. Good for food – “the nearest to the man’s heart is the stomach” so they say. All of us crave for delicious foods. Proverbs 23:20-21 Do not mix with winebibbers, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.
2. Pleasant to the eyes – our eyes are wonderful gift from God but we must use them only for God’s glory. Matthew 5:28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
3. Desirable to make one wise – pride of life sometimes is real culprit to aim for fame and wisdom. 1 John 2:15-16 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
I will always submit to God and be always in His presence to be free from any temptation.
