DELIGHT IN GOD’S COMMANDMENTS
by Rev. Oliver Castro Mutuc
Psalm 119:33-48
Psalm 119:47 says: And I will delight myself in Your commandments,
Which I love. God’s statutes are for our own good. That is why our utmost obedience and observation is badly needed for us to benefit from it. Upon having so, we should ask the following:
1. To teach and give us understanding of His commandments -Psalm 119:3-34 for us to keep and observe all God’s statutes with all our heart. Psalm 119:26-27 When I told of my ways, you answered me; teach me your statutes! Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
2. To make us walk in the path of His commandments –Psalm 119:35-37 and to turn away our eyes from looking at worthless things. Ezekiel 36:26- And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
3. To ask God to take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth – Psalm 119:43-46 so we will speak of God’s love and goodness also before everyone, and will not be ashamed. Psalm 71:17-18 O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.
God is likewise delighted when we understand and obey His words.
I was changed and learned from His words and will keep on meditating it forever.
