THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
By Rev. Oliver Castro Mutuc
Luke 9:21 says: And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one.
If we value the cost of discipleship, we should refrain from murmuring and don’t squeal every ordeal we have to suffer such as:
1. We will suffer rejections, hardships etc. –Luke 9:22 – discipleship is not a smooth sailing journey. Luke 10:16 He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.
2. We will take up our crosses daily –Luke 9:23 – it deals with a lot of sacrifices on our part. Luke 14:27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
3. We must be risk taker –Luke 9:24 – following Christ will mean losing friends but will gain brethren. 2 Kings 7:4 If we say, ‘We will enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die.”
Discipleship is character building and God is delighted if we pass through the process.
I am a disciple who is willing to learn because I am still under construction.
