PASSING THE TORCH
by Rev. Oliver Castro Mutuc
Deuteronomy 31:2 says: And he said to them: “I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer go out and come in. Also the Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross over this Jordan.’
There will be a time when your time will up and you need to pass your duties and responsibilities to someone else that deserves your position. And the following words are essential as an encouragement to your successor:
1. The Lord your God Himself crosses over before you – Deuteronomy 31:3 – God will always guide you in every step of the way. Isaiah 58:11 The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
2. The Lord will do to them as He did to Sihon and Og – Deuteronomy 31:4 - He will destroy all your worries to make you victorious. Deuteronomy 20:4 For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”
3. The Lord will give them over to you – Deuteronomy 31:5 - that you may do to them according to every commandment which I have commanded you. Joshua 10:19 but do not stay there yourselves; pursue your enemies and attack them in the rear. Do not allow them to enter their cities, for the Lord your God has delivered them into your hand.
And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed. In that way, the successor will handle the task easily.
I have received the baton and I will work with excellence as much as I could.
